The Texas Rangers will compete in their first ALDS series since 1999 beginning on Wednesday. And for the first time in franchise history, the Rangers will face a team other than the New York Yankees in the playoffs. The Rangers’ first round opponent will be the Tampa Bay Rays, fresh off of their second AL East crown in the last three years.

The two teams faced off six times in 2010, with the Rays winning the season series 4-2. Let’s review each of the season matchups.

June 4, 2010 (Arlington, TX): Texas 9, Tampa Bay 6

CJ Wilson labored through 5.0 innings, surrendering three earned runs in an appearance where he struggled with his command, walking four. For the Rays, Wade Davis allowed eight earned runs, being ousted after 3.1 innings during a seven-run fourth inning for the Rangers. Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton both had three-hit performances and homered in a 13 hit outburst by the Rangers. Ben Zobrist collected three hits, and Evan Longoria went deep against the Rangers’ bullpen. Neftali Feliz worked a perfect ninth inning for the save, collecting two strikeouts.
